Origin of the name “Notarius”

From latin notarius, means “notary,” a professional of the law. A notary receives or writes deeds and contracts, rendering them authentic and undisputable.

What Is Notarius

Notarius is a non-profit organization founded on 19 June 1996 by the Chambre des notaires du Québec (CNQ). Certified ISO 27001, ISO 9001:2008 and recognized by the Conseil du trésor du Québec, Notarius issues digital signatures to Canadian professionals and their business partners.

Mission

Notarius is a consulting firm whose mission is to provide technological solutions that support the secure exchange of information to professionals from diverse spheres of activity and their business partners.

Notarius evolves: From the notarial profession’s technology integration plan to providing digital signature to professionals


1996

Notarius launches the Inforoute notariale, a secure communications network linking Quebec notaries with their business partners.

1998

Notarius acquires a public key infrastructure, the Quebec Certification Centre (QCC), to issue digital signatures to members of the notarial profession.

2000

Notarius implements new technological standards for mortgage loans and subrogations at the Confédération des caisses populaires et d'économie Desjardins while allowing notaries to fully perform their role as public officers.

2001

Notarius is certified ISO 9001.

The digital signature used by the notarial profession is put to use through the Quebec Cadastre Reform Program whose goal was to computerize the Quebec Cadastre. This project was implemented by the Promoteurs Inforef partnership (Notarius, Bell Canada, DMR Conseil Inc., and Iron Mountain Canada Corporation).

Notarius also takes part in the implementation of a computer platform that allows for the electronic transmission of will and mandate reports to the Chambre des notaires du Québec.

2005

Notarius launches its Digital Signature Kit. From now on, customers and partners alike have access to tools that optimize the digital signing process.

2007

Notarius’ public key infrastructure is certified ISO 27001.

2009

A significant update is made to the Digital Signature Kit: batch signing PDF documents is now possible with ConsignO.

2012

Notarius partners with a growing community of 14 professional associations that represent more than 160 000 professionals across Canada.
