The Quebec Certification Centre (QCC) is the accreditation authority recognized by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia to offer the key and certificate service to their members and licensees.

Digital signature: Your official signature and security seal in the electronic world!

In today's world, it is practically unthinkable to be practising a profession without using information technology. More to the point, however, is that all of the attendant security-related issues cannot be ignored. Saving data over open networks or transferring data via the Internet could compromise the integrity and confidentiality of your documents.

What is the digital signature issued for the clients used for?

The digital signature is used for

  • Irrefutably linking your professional identity to your electronic documents;
  • Protecting your electronic document from any alterations;
  • Guaranteeing the confidentiality of your documents, allowing only authorized people to read them.

How to obtain keys and certificates:

Step 1

Be a member in good standing of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia.

Step 2

Print and fill out the subscription form, without signing it.

Note: To access the subscription form, you must first download and install Acrobat Reader.

Step 3

Have your identity certified and affix your signature on the subscription form in the presence of a witness who will confirm your identity and complete the Attestation section (witness is either a Member of APEGBC, a lawyer or notary public under seal or an IVA at APEGBC).

Make sure that you have the following information and documents for your meeting with the APEGBC recognized engineer or geoscientist:

  • The subscription form (unsigned)
  • Your personal e-mail address at work
  • Two pieces of identification (one with a photo) issued by a recognized government authority
  • The APEGBC recognized engineer or geoscientist or the witness who certifies the identity must sign a copy of the pieces of identification and include his or her name, title, member number (or in the case of licence holders their system ID number) and date and seal.

Step 4

The applicant forwards the original subscription form to the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia, along with the photocopy of the certified pieces of identification to the following address:

Step 5

Upon receiving your application, the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia will conduct the necessary checks and authorize Notarius to issue you a digital signature.

Step 6

Notarius' Key and Certificate Management Service will send you an e-mail containing your activation code. The second activation code will be delivered to you by an authorized representative along with the information required to activate your digital signature.

System and network configuration requirements for digital signatures:

To be issued keys and certificates, the following network configuration and system requirements are needed :

System Requirements:

  • Computer with Windows XP S2, Windows Vista or Windows 7
  • Internet connection

The firewall must authorize the following ports/addresses :

  • X500.notarius.net port 389
  • X500b.notarius.net port 389
  • Entrust.notarius.net port 709 et 829
